A socio-technical experiment with a resource efficient product service system

This paper describes a socio-technical experiment relating to sustainable innovation project conducted in protected niche or “living lab” and evaluates the ability of generate learning strategic direction. The study focused on Product Service System (PSS) for renting infant mobility products consumers. A PSS is resource efficient system services supported by networks infrastructure. In experiment, refurbished were rented 1044 families, with some being reutilized three times. Learnings generated through five stages: combining competences resources, steering facilitating change, engaging users at early stages, offering opportunities modify practices trial capturing mediating mutual knowledge co-creation. observed environmental benefits included reduction particulate plastic matter released into environment transportation materials. Considerable barriers implementation open market identified, including attrition loss damage, product liability consumer distrust sharing due fear contagion.
